Ready, Set – Decor!: New Girl

Ok, I’ll admit it – I have a bit of a girl-crush on Zooey Deschanel. In fact, have admired her since I saw Elf , for the first time, when it hit theatres back in 2003. (Did I just admit to another embarrassment?) Now, almost 10 years later, Deschanel has captured audiences everywhere as the irrepressible Jess, on the hit show New Girl.

The majority of scenes are set  in an LA loft where Jess and her three male roommates live. Each of the guys has a very distinct personality,  a fact which Set Decorator, Jane Shirkes and Production Designer, Michael Whetstone, masterfully portray through the design and decor of the characters’ home. The vastly different roommates – Nick, the laid back, burn-out bartender, Winston, the star-athlete-turned-radio-host-assistant, Schmidt, the self-absorbed OCD businessman and also Jess, the naive and quirky science teacher – are all represented  through various elements of the set decor.

There’s a fine line between hip-eclectic and chaotic-clutter, but Shirkes and Whetstone artfully walk it. Take a look below to see how you can get the look of the New Girl loft in your own space!
